The challenge
The Qatar Fund for Development launched 'Women in Conflict Zones' on 23 September 2022, on the sidelines of the 77th UN General Assembly, 'to support women and girls in conflict and crisis contexts' (QFFD).
The idea
Written and directed by Omar Khalifa for The Film House in Doha, the film was 'made for the launch of the “Women in Conflict Zones” initiative' and 'played on 23.09.22 at the United Nations General Assembly' (MUSE entry). It draws on statistics about women and girls caught up in conflict, from displacement and abuse to lost schooling and healthcare, in scenes set in a hospital, a classroom, a ruined street and a sea rescue, and ends on the message that 'with support, even despite conflict, women can look after themselves, their loved ones and their communities'.
