The challenge

Soundstorm is MDLBEAST's flagship event, launched in 2019 (MUSE entry), and MDLBEAST billed the 2024 edition as 'the fifth and most ambitious edition of the Middle East and North Africa’s largest music festival'.

The idea

The festival ran from 12 to 14 December 2024 across more than 1.2 million square metres, with ten stages, up from eight in 2023, 'exclusive female viewing zones across all stages and five female-only entry gates'; the entry presents HER Zones, 'a dedicated space for women to enjoy the festival in comfort and safety', as new in 2024. MDLBEAST lists underground stages running on biofuels, water treatment 'capable of treating 80% of water used during the event' and 36% waste recycling. Its recap film, 'MDLBEAST Soundstorm'24 | Weekend Recap', was entered as the festival's aftermovie.

Results

  • 450,000 visitors over three days, according to MDLBEAST
  • A Guinness World Record for the largest continuous outdoor LED screen (temporary), 4,808.84 square metres on the main stage, according to MDLBEAST
  • Over $105 million in economic impact, $221.8 million in media value and 4.63 billion impressions, according to MDLBEAST's MUSE entry, which doesn't say what period they cover
