Dubai Backseat Stories

The challenge

#MyDubai, the social media storytelling initiative launched in 2014, wanted to take residents' own stories about Dubai to wider audiences, including Uber's international community. The partners built on a familiar Uber experience: some of the most candid conversations happen in the back seat.

The idea

Until 14 October 2026, participating Uber rides in Dubai carried an "Our Stories, Our City" deck of question cards in the back seat. The prompts asked riders about a hidden spot tourists tend to miss, their first week in the city in three words, and the most memorable conversation they had had on a journey across Dubai. Riders were asked to post their answers with #DubaiBackseatStories. Selected stories were to be shared on official city channels, and the people featured would receive Uber ride credits. The partners linked the idea to the UAE tradition of passing stories on in conversation at the majlis and family gatherings, moved here to the back seat of a car.
