Tiny Coffee Shops.

De'Longhi and model-maker Simon Weisse turned five of its coffee machines into working miniature cafés, each inspired by a city's coffee culture, to make the case that café coffee is better at home.

The challenge

The case study says more than 80% of coffee is drunk at home, yet 72% of people believe the best coffee can only be had in a café, so De'Longhi had to show café quality from its machines rather than just claim it.

The idea

LOLA and Simon Weisse, known for the miniatures in Wes Anderson's films, built handcrafted, fully working cafés around five De'Longhi machines, inspired by Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, Milan and Copenhagen. They took more than 1,500 hours, with windows that show the machines' screens and roofs that lift off for refilling. Publicly titled 'The World's Smallest Coffee Shop', the work was unveiled with an influencer reveal in Berlin and at Milan Design Week 2026, then rolled out across retail, digital, social and experiential channels; a pop-up in Tokyo followed in May (De'Longhi Japan).

Results

  • About 3,500 visitors to the three-day Tokyo pop-up, according to De'Longhi Japan
