The challenge
Street signage in Lima is made to be seen, which leaves pedestrians with visual impairments with little to guide them. Cemento Sol, part of UNACEM, wanted its core product to solve that.
The idea
Circus Grey, Grey's studio in Peru, developed a tactile signage system built into special pavement tiles, a project that took almost two years to develop and install. The tiles went down in Miraflores, with plans to spread to other Lima districts. Cemento Sol made the design and its patent free to use through its website.
Results
- According to Grey, more than 75,000 square metres of the tiles have been laid.
