The challenge
Libya's largest museum, in Tripoli's Red Castle, closed in 2011 during the uprising against Muammar Gaddafi. The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity began renovating it in March 2023, and it reopened in December 2025 (Reuters, via Gulf Times). Katara Studios made the film to celebrate the reopening.
The idea
In Katara Studios' words, 'A falcon lifts from the stillness of the Libyan desert, and time begins to move.' Following its flight, the film passes through the Tehenu tribes around 3000 BC and the Vandal, Roman and Ottoman eras, surfacing the Three Graces of Sabratha, the mummy of Wan Muhuggiag, the emperor Septimius Severus and Omar Al-Mukhtar, the Lion of the Desert. It ends with the falcon back in the desert, joined by the people and histories it has carried, before Al Saraya Al Hamra, which the entry calls 'a timeless symbol of Libyan identity and unity' (MUSE).
