Our standards.
Brief & Butter covers advertising, marketing and creative work in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. This page explains how we check what we publish, how we credit others, how we use AI and how we fix mistakes.
How we check facts
Every number, award, date and name is checked against a primary source before it goes live: the brand's or agency's own announcement, the award body's results, the regulator, or the official news agency (SPA, WAM). We check the English and the Arabic. If we can't verify a claim, we leave it out or say clearly who made it.
How we credit others
Many of our stories start from another publication's reporting or a company's announcement. We name the source and link to it. When the original publisher ran a piece as sponsored or partner content, we say so. Campaign entries credit the brand and the agencies behind the work.
Arabic
Our Arabic is written for Arabic readers, with the same facts and meaning as the English rather than a word-for-word translation. Brand names stay in Latin script, and organisations are named the way they write their own names.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help research, draft summaries, prepare a first Arabic version and check consistency. Story illustrations are made with an AI image model; report covers are drawn by code from the report's own figures. Nothing is published until the Brief & Butter Editor has reviewed and approved it, and every fact still goes through the checks above.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the end of the story saying what changed. Old stories stay online: we don't delete them to hide a mistake.
