The challenge
During Lebanon's financial crisis, savers could withdraw dollar deposits only in Lebanese pounds at a loss, leaving their 'dollars' close to worthless. The association wanted people to see corruption as the cause.
The idea
Leo Burnett created six Lollar notes, each showing a crisis tied to corruption: the 100 shows the August 2020 Beirut blast, the 50 the energy crisis, the 10 the waste crisis. People could take the notes from custom ATMs around Beirut or print them from a microsite, and were urged to pay government bills with Lollars on 13 May. Artist Tom Young illustrated the notes.
