A Saudi National Day film for the mining company Maaden built on the double meaning of معدن, both 'mineral' and 'mettle', following characters who stand for the Saudi character.

The challenge

Maaden wanted a National Day film that honoured the Kingdom 'by drawing a powerful parallel between the richness of Saudi Arabia’s mineral resources and the enduring spirit of its people', and that reflected 'the company’s values of care, integrity, and teamwork' (MUSE entry).

The idea

Directed by Younes Medhat and produced by Purple Brain, the film follows 'various characters that represent the unparalleled mettle of Saudi citizens', playing on the tagline المعدن السعودي ('the Saudi mettle'), which the entry quotes; Purple Brain lists the director's cut as 'Maaden – معدنك سعودي' ('your mettle is Saudi'). One still shows a man in a shemagh and two people in lab coats around a holographic city.
