A film for the Liwa Festival that looks past the racing to the mechanics, racers and fans behind it, lit with 18 to 20 light sources to turn the desert into a stage.

The challenge
For years the Liwa Festival had been an underground haven for motorsport subcultures. Abu Dhabi wanted a film that would put it on the global stage by capturing its soul, not just its speed.
The idea
Serviceplan Middle East and Dejavu shot the festival from midday sun to neon-lit night, mixing ambient, studio and practical lights. Tight handheld frames follow the pits, sweeping drone shots show the scale of the desert, and slow motion holds the tension before each start. Gonzalo Oliveró directed, with Anatol Trofimov as director of photography.
