The challenge

Kinder cites UNESCO figures that 40% of people worldwide can't get education in a language they speak fluently. Reading for pleasure early in life supports children's development, but many bilingual families lack books in their languages.

The idea

Built by Gameloft for Brands with researchers from the University of Oxford's Department of Education and AI engineers from Microsoft, the feature launched in October 2024. Children can generate original stories from more than 40,000 combinations or pick from 29 classic tales, switch between 15 languages, and parents can guide the stories with prompts.

Results

  • According to The Drum Awards entry, families logged 28.2 million minutes of reading by July 2025.
  • The entry reports more than 2 million families engaged and 200–400K users a month.
