The challenge
History is usually presented as something to look at: dates, names and monuments. The ministry wanted three centuries of history to feel present, and heritage sites to read as places to feel rather than simply see.
The idea
The idea came from the way people lean into paintings in a museum and imagine the scene. A young boy on a family outing on Founding Day watches maps move and paintings open up, then steps into Diriyah, scenes of allegiance and Turaif at its height. The film ends on the line 'Our history is alive' (تاريخنا حي) with the Spirit of Saudi mark and the logos of the tourism bodies.
