The challenge
The D&AD entry calls it 'a story about taking control and leaving the financial system as we know it to find more autonomy'. Cannes Lions describes the work as 'a film that challenges perceptions about today's financial system through video game aesthetics and original craft', and Isle of Any's Toby Treyer-Evans told shots it 'taps into the emotion of what it feels like to leave a system that we've been living in for so many years.'
The idea
A non-player character in a PS2-era game city breaks his loop and escapes into reality. Director Oscar Hudson of MJZ shot it almost entirely in camera: low-resolution textures flattened onto simple sets, suits with lapels and ties printed flat onto the fabric, the cast's faces printed onto lycra masks, and extras trained to move like game characters (shots; Muse by Clios). The escape runs along a 75-metre set that morphs from game to real, filmed on a custom wire-cam rig and set to Sammy Davis Jr.'s 'It's Gotta Be Me'. It aired during the Oscars broadcast on 15 March 2026.
