Reddit adds an algorithmic For You feed beside Following.

Reddit is rolling out a For You feed that recommends posts and communities chosen by its algorithm, next to a Following feed of communities people have already joined. The company says the change will reach users worldwide over the next few weeks.

According to Social Media Today, which reported the launch on 28 October, For You takes the first slot in the app, but it is not the default view. The app will open on whichever feed a person used last. Reddit says the split gives people a clearer choice between discovering new communities and catching up on their own.

Reddit describes the feed as part of a wider set of experiments. It says it will keep testing ways for people to explore by interest, and more controls to shape the feed, such as hiding posts and saying what they want to see less of. The move follows other changes this year, including the end of public RSS feeds and API access announced in September.

Reddit has not shared how the recommendations are ranked, whether ads will appear in For You differently from other feeds, or any test results on engagement. Social Media Today also notes that proposals to give people an opt-out from algorithmic feeds could limit how far features like this go.

For marketers, a recommendation feed usually means more chances for a strong post in one community to reach people outside it. Brands and agencies in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf that use Reddit for research or community work, particularly in gaming, tech and travel, should watch whether their posts start drawing readers from beyond the subreddits they target.

Why it matters

Recommended communities can bring brand and creator posts to people who never joined a subreddit, widening organic reach on Reddit.
